Wry, inconspicuous humor in a collection of articles written in Maine, Florida, New York, as the author tells of his hay fever, his farm, his son, his neighbors, his travelling companions, the World's Fair, local attitudes, speech, etc. The mental irritants and emollients of a writer's life, with the war on the horizon pointing up daily events. It is a pick-up-and-savor type of book, jottings of two years including Pearl Harbor a very personal response to all within his range of vision. Some of the material has appeared in periodicals, notably Harper's. Entertaining and amusing, but definitely not fluff.
