Here's Ed competes with Lawrence Welk's Wunnerful, Wunnerful and Ah One, Ah Two! for flannel-voiced good will and compelling mediocrity. (where he practiced radio announcing in the parlor as a kid) to his fifteen-year slot as second banana on Johnny Carson's The Tonight Show ramble on with nightblinded pointlessness and an ersatz raffishness perhaps meant to show a blathery Irish gift. There are some straightforward moments as a Marine fighter pilot, watching Boston's famed Coconut Grove disaster, and joining a traveling circus. 'But then we are treated to gabble most comics ""wouldn't touch with a ten-foot pole--that's a basketball player from Warsaw."" Show biz bio hits seabottom.
