KIRKUS REVIEW

Most of the stories demonstrate a fresh, vivid approach to the Western ene The West has so often been put out of focus by T.V. writers and producers, that it is a surprise to discover that the rugged, craggy land can still be effectively captured by some writers. Mr. Mygatt, who also edited Trails of Adventure (1961, 735, J-259) has again made a careful, fine selection of stories by outstanding Western writers like Verne Athanas (whose story about a boy and a clownish bear is one of the outstanding ones here), Homer, Croy, S. Omar Barker, Rutherford Montgomery, Wayne C. Lee, Jeanne Williams and others. Young boys, who see too much of the hack-eyed Westerns, will find these stories good, worthwhile reading.
