COLLEGE SLUGGER

The college career of a big league-destined outfielder with plenty of play-by-play games and a minimum of psychological complications. Marty Ferris, elevated to the regular team of the Fordham Rams as a sophomore, rumored to have been sponsored for a college education by the New York Yankees, sees his dreams come true. In spite of team splits, and a temptation to play illegal pro-baseball in the summer, Marty is a model athlete -- hustling and hitting in the pinches. Finally the Rams win the Metropolitan Conference Championship, and Marty is signed by the Yankees. The angelic character of the hero is a detriment, but this is good baseball.
