KING'S RANSOM

Douglas King- with dreams of glory- at any rate power- must forfeit his chance to become top man of a shoe company when he must use the cash, on hand for this deal, to ransom the son of his chauffeur, kidnapped- by mistake- in lieu of his own son. King's reluctance to destroy his career for a kid alternates with the story of the boy's detention at the hands of his three abductors. Steve Carella of the 87th Precinct is again very much on the job and it is a cold blooded crime synchronized with hot action and explicit police procedure.
