KIRKUS REVIEW

The young elephant, Abba, is determined to free another young elephant, Kia, from the hunters. After undergoing many trials and hardships he finally succeeds in doing this and in freeing all the other animals who have been captured with Kia. In its mood and style this book is reminiscent of fairy-tales, fables, myths and the Book of Genesis. Bit it certainly makes easier, clearer reading for our young readers than most of these old classics and still it has their quality of mystery and poetic beauty. It is a book which takes a child into a very different world and introduces him to the idea that pictures can be drawn with words.
