KIRKUS REVIEW

The New Testament was the first part of the Bible translated into the American language -- published in 1983. Now the University of Chicago Press is issuing it in a parallel New Testament with the King James version, and with Introduction and Explanatory Notes. The value of this Goodspeed translation has proved itself; undoubtedly, this parallel will appeal to students of the Bible who are sincerely interested in comparative meanings, who value the familiar beauties of the King James version, but want the clarity, the impact of the American translation. The Moffett is the only other available Parallel New Testament. This has the additional value of the notes. Bible sales are at an all-time peak. The Goodspeed pocket New Testaments have more than doubled last year's sales. This should prove a good and steady item.
