THE UNGUARDED FRONTIER

A thorough going history of United States-Canadian relations, in terms of the long antagonisms over the question of the dividing line, which explains the reasons for the partition of the continent, the negotiations and treaties following the Revolution, the effects of the French Revolution, the many years of compromise,and the development, based on parallel relationships, of harmony and cooperation in the positions achieved. It is also a history of the struggle for Canadian nationalism, integration, and the chances that this war offer for a greater advance of the individual character and political destiny of Canadian interests. It should be a timely book for a larger understanding of the interdependence of the two countries who have such a vast frontier, whose controversies have been, in the past, and are, in the present, a problem for intelligent solution, and a challenge for the building of mutual trust and benefit. It should supplement the books devoted solely to Canada since its picture of United States and Canada widens the focus and heightens the interest. A good job, and a lasting record.
