PERFECT FOOLS

Green returns with her usual cast--and this time debonair, 70-ish, rich Dearborn Pinch has the job of rescuing his ex-basketball-player son Benjamin (also in the playboy mold), who's on the run from a murder charge down in Cuba. Dearborn enlists the reluctant aid of his Cuban doorman Jaime and Miami-boatman friend Tomas: together they spring Dearborn's demented old chum Raul Baki from the sanitorium where he so rightly belongs. And, losing Jaime in the process, they make their stormy way to Cuba--where Dearborn is mistaken for a member of an aristocratic terrorist group. . . while Tomas finds that his sweetheart has married another. . . while Benjamin, holed up in Havana with beautiful tourist-guide Isobel, tries desperately and ineptly to find out who framed him. Ultimately, then, Dearborn and son connect--as do Tomas and sweetheart--and, though sometimes funny, Green's whimsical improbabilities become fairly tedious here, especially in dubious conjunction with some serious themes.
