LAST ONE HOME IS A GREEN PIG

All the excitement and tempo of a race are incorporated into this tale of a duck and a monkey. The penalty of the race they propose is so dire that they explore every possibility which will prevent them being the last one home, and, consequently, ""a green pig"". Ripping across a world washed with green and red, the two animals employ their own momentum, plus the momentum of every available vehicle. The young reader is painlessly introduced, not only to the mannerism of monkeys and ducks, but also to a vocabulary which features trucks, boats, planes, horses, busses and bicycles. Clarence Hurd, who has previously cooperated with his wife in illustrating St. George's Day in Williamsburg, The Devil's Tail, and The Fox In The Box, etc. captures the excitement of speed in an original and thoroughly convincing manner in his freely executed paintings.
