THE MOTHER DEER by Edith Thacher Hurd

THE MOTHER DEER

By

Pub Date: Sept. 21st, 1972
Publisher: Little, Brown--A.M.P.

Like last year's Mother Beaver (1971), this follows a mother deer through a one-year cycle, beginning when she gives birth to two fawns in the spring and ending the next spring when she pushes them off into the woods and gives birth to another pair. Meanwhile she is seen nursing her offspring, feeding them apples, leading them through the woods, and mating in the autumn with a buck. With dark turquoise and fawn colored woodcuts, a very first introduction for those attuned to the Hurds' quiet sensibilities.
