JERRY THE JEEP

Jerry the Jeep adds another to the popular list of vehicles endowed with personality. The contrary jeep, after being rejected on several fronts, makes good in the tropics. He overcomes his unfortunate aversion to mud, makes a gallant trip through the jungle and helps save our island from attack. He is awarded the Silver Cross. The jeep is a good, pugnacious character, though the traits are a bit overdone, as in a seasick incident. The episodes are simple, humorous and written in a straightforward style. The illustrations by Theodore Friday are attractive, clear and closely linked with the text. Second and third graders will enjoy reading this to themselves; younger children will like it read aloud to them. A lively and timely book. Board and paper.
