CONFLICT IN MARRIAGE by Edmund Bergler

CONFLICT IN MARRIAGE

The psychiatrist-interpreter of the many conflicts and culs de sac of marriage (Divorce Wont Help, etc.) all of which stem from neurosis, considers here the ""unhappy undivorced"". Believing that the unhappiness of neurotics is ""unconsciously self-chosen, self-provoked and self-perpetuated"", Dr. Bergler considers the three main categories of neurotic unhappiness in marriage; the irritating trifle (a reminder of the unresolved conflict in the irritated person); mental cruelty, in all its variations, sex, money, etc. and lastly mental captivity- the feeling of being chained or exploited. All of this is illustrated by case studies from his analytic practice, with suggestions for relief through personal or professional handling. And his advice is astringent, practical.
