NO ROOM AT THE INN

A brief news note, telling of the birth of a child in the ditch where a group of 200 Jewish refugees in the no-man's land between Germany and Czecho-slovakia had taken refuge, supplied the inspiration for this story. Not quite so poignant as Dephne Du Maurier's vignette, Happy Christmas -- nor so ironic in its contrasts. But set against the world background, it is wholly credible.
