Important for public and school libraries and for individuals interested in building up a well rounded reference library of American history. A folder containing a well-selected collection of photographic reproductions of such documents as Cornwallis' letter of surrender, the original draft of the Declaration of Independence, Lincoln's copy of the Gettysburg address, the drafts of The Star Spangled Banner and so on -- 26 in all. Accompanying these documents -- American history in the making -- is a bookist giving the full text of each document, and explaining its importance in the American background. For bookshops -- do most of your selling by individual letters to customers interested in such material or by telephone calls; use in Washington's Birthday window displays, writing to the publisher for sales aids, communicate with patriotic societies, each of which should have a set on display; call to attention of schools.
