Set in the present, but in a frontier region, this tells of pioneering in southern Alaskan islands within the Juneau-Sitka-Ketchikan triangle. Mark Wallace, the hero of the story, is skipper of the small Alaska, and anxious to get the government contract for a mail route to the needy island settlers. To win his objective he must fight bigger outfits, and he nearly loses the battle when he is falsely accused in the disappearance of a gold shipment. But the crookedness is exposed, Mark is awarded his contract, and the settlers he has helped are the better for his services.
