MOUSE MANOR

In the British tradition of the humanized animal story, this is a charmingly illustrated vignette of a lonely Victorian country mouse's adventures in the city. Miss Myrtilla Mouse, fed up with a dreary existence as sole tenant of draughty, dusty Mouse Manor, goes to London. In town, acquaintance with some palace mice, the Cheesebiskers and cavortings in the throne room where Myrtilla frightens an officiating Queen Victoria result in marriage with dapper Bertie Cheesebiskers and joint efforts that turn Mouse Manor into a prosperous country inn. Beryl Bailey-Jones' softly-hued drawings of exquisitely clad mice are fetching glimpses of tickling escapades.
