THE GOLDEN DOORS

A beguilingly gay story which cuts deeper than more vacation pleasures in Florence, making a credible blend of the adventures of two youngsters and the enchantment of Florence, its history and its charm. Twelve year old Alida and fourteen year old Wayne Carpenter are more or less on their own while their parents, movie stars, are making an Italian picture. In their wanderings they strike up friendship with Bruno Torelli, a musical and artistic youth, newly come home. During the weeks that follow, Bruno introduces them to the Florence he knows and loves, through spirited instruction on art, to sharing his friends with them and stimulating their learning of Italian, and bringing home the fascination of Florence's colorful history. Of course Bruno is ""discovered"" for an important part in the film, but even this seems natural. An excellent story along with bubbling dialog, credible characters, and an appreciation of learning on the spot.
