KIRKUS REVIEW

Good short book for advertising, writing, speaking, propaganda, audiences, etc., -- this study of words and their use. It is, unfortunately, somewhat textbooky in form, but the content should interest anyone who is fascinated by words, for this shows how choice of words can influence the reader or listener favorably or otherwise, how to choose words to make your meaning acceptable, and so on. Chapters on various kinds of words, specific and concrete, prejudice, prepossessive, French words, words off the beaten track -- all with illustrative examples.
