BEHIND THE WHEEL

By

Pub Date: March 27th, 1972
Publisher: Holt, Rinehart & Winston

Edward Koren puts readers in the driver's seat with surreal views from behind the wheels of a succession of vehicles, and (simultaneously) diagrams of their dashboards -- tantalizingly labeled ""manifold purge valve,"" ""gear reduction selector,"" ""directional gyro,"" etc. These engagingly manic fantasies of what would happen If I Drove a motorcycle, subway or helicopter are populated by Koren's sleepy-eyed, fang-toothed beasts (part minotaur/frog/wart hog), and quirky details (such as the movie marquee featuring ""The Brownies Meet Prince Floramil"") reward close inspection. The dashboard gadgetry and the agitated, outlandish landscapes will do more than a shelf full of verite excursions to stimulate mechanical curiosity. Transports of delight.
