KIRKUS REVIEW

Romantic historical biography this, in the story of the Blennerhassets and their involvement in the failure of Aaron Burr's conspiracy to western empire. Margaret's runaway marriage to her uncle in Europe met family censure and they were driven to America where- on an island in the Ohio River- they built a castle that was famed for its luxurious beauty. Three children were born to them, but with the husband's isolation, Margaret's restless drive was unsatisfied. A chance meeting with Burr, mutual attraction, the lure of his dream of conquest, and the willing cooperation of her husband, involved them both, and with the collapse of the scheme, the arrest of Harmon and Burr, the Blenner- hassets faced an uncertain future. Good reading.
