Fiction which hints at the facts behind recent important history, this tells of reservist Lt. Harry Joy whose life becomes irrevocably involved with that of his submarine skipper as the two work together on the development of nuclear powered submarines. Commander Sampson Greice bears some biographical, historical and even physical resemblance to the famous Admiral Rickover of atomic sub fame. Thus there is more to this lively, briskly-written Navy novel than Joy's adventures in Cuba, his fame in war games, and the fight for nuclear power which marked the real story of the 1950s.
