WHEN SOCIAL WORK WAS YOUNG

Limited appeal in the reminiscences of a pioneer in social service. The market is narrowed to those in the field, through the manner of presentation, the lack of warmth and color in the telling. Pictures the early years of the New York Charity Organization Society, the tenement house reform, the preventative and disaster work. He contrasts the old ways with the modern ways, the problems then and now, the personalities of the past. But there is insufficient drama and human interest in the way he has presented his story of a life that must have abounded in both.
