A book that should be vitally interesting to all fight fans, for little has been told of Joe Louis' early life and early fights. A simple account of his rise, in about 10 months, from Ford plant worker, where he was known in amateur competitions, to present position as ""greatest human fighting machine"" -- probably headed for world championship. All his big fights are fairly detailed -- there are scenes in training camps, dressing rooms, ringsides, to show the fearlessness and composure of Louis. The book is done simply -- career, personality, a clean record, a complete understanding of his position as representative of his race. Not too technical in handling for the novice.
