AMARANTH by Edwin Arlington Robinson

AMARANTH

His first long poem since Talifer, but it cannot be defined strictly as a narrative poem, but is rather a meditation, a symbolic treatment of the men and women who have misdirected the flow of talent and turned to artificial gods. Through Amaranth, ""the flower that cannot fade,"" they reach a better understanding of their own place in the scheme of things. A questionable market -- the Robinson fans, of course; beyond that, those who like symbolic verse, conventionalized in form.
