IN HIS HANDS

Malcolm Severn, a doctor, who entertains a feeling of friendship towards Lyd- but loves Alice Keith, sees the blood count in another doctor's laboratory which condemns the donor he mistakenly assumes to be Lyd. Once engaged to Alice, he learns that it is she who is doomed to die, and in spite of his family, and hers, presses for an early marriage. Prayer supplements his faith and although science can give him no hope, he goes to the altar without regret or recrimination. Ennobling as much of this experience may be, the really dreadful writing would indicate that the ultimate sacrifice is more probably the reader.
