SOLITAIRE

A bit of Steinbeck-borrowing in a poignant story of a little girl and the hobo she adopts. She belongs to an exclusive Pasadena family, but her interests and affections are attached to Ben, a tramp, and his pet rat. He is a nice old man, philosopher of sorts, with imagination and an awareness of fundamentals. Her family interfere to break up the friendship, and an onarchist who is also down in the arroyo, brings the break to a head. It misses fire somehow.
