SHAW'S FORTUNE: The Picture Story of a Colonial Plantation

With his usual eye for interesting detail, Edwin Tunis has created a vivid panorama of life on a particular Virginia plantation in 1620, 1650 and 1752. In a small scope he answers multitudinous questions of what -- tools, furnishings, dress; of how -- planting, weaving, learning; and of why -- economic and social background. Regarding the latter, he is careful to point out that the slaves were not content with their status. All librarians will want to take their children on this leisurely, lucid guided tour.
