Two young English girls, often twirling parasols en grande toilette, come to India where they are the only survivors of a caravan attacked by Thuggees who will again threaten to destroy them at the close. In between they meet the rajah, go on a tiger hunt, and Lauren ""smacks"" the independent and aloof Robert Gordon who saves her life and wins her heart. He tells her: ""Your head is stuffed full of romantic nonsense, foolishness you've acquired from silly novels."" Which leaves you to wonder who writes them--""gloriously replete"" with hyacinthine prose.
