THE TORCH WITHIN

By

Pub Date: April 16th, 1965
Publisher: Doubleday

This is probably one of the most remarkable publishing feats of the year. This is a how-to book on creating an Olympic medal winning swimmer out of an offspring (preferably male). How the publisher could have convinced Mrs. Rose to write this candid testimonial that reads with the persuasive impact of a Sunday missal in a synagogue is beyond explanation. Her son Murray was the first swimmer to win a distance swim in two successive Olympics, the first Olympic competitor to win three gold medals at the age of seventeen and the first to break the eighteen minute barrier in the 1500-meter swimming marathon. And he was a cross between Hercules and Adonis, loved Greek philosophy and was modest. How was this possible? Faith, vegetarianism, Universal Principles, the swimming coach and the Mother-Father principle, and (perhaps) a mother's girlhood premonition- ""to have a son who would become a great Olympic champion. I can think of no greater goal."" But for those parents with qualms, or daughters, please refer to Mrs. Rose's public image Gains-Loss chart conveniently provided. We tabulated a total loss.
