G.I. JUNGLE

A good series of selectee's experiences in active service: - the troopship, Australia, the monotony, lack of privacy, novelty of the first American task force, differences in money, movies, people, hospitality, importance of mail from home. Then the first forest camp: New Guines and aborigines; transportation of supplies; jungle housekeeping. ""The jungle was tough, and the Japs were tougher, but the Yanks were toughest of all."" Excellent reading, quiet, intelligent, aware, human.
