THE SLEEPY WATCHDOG

Pub Date: Feb. 28th, 1964

Josh the watchdog prefers sleep to watching and can't be kept awake by any method. His owners put coffee in his hamburger and have a jazz band play at him through the night, but all to no effect. Then their daughter suggests that Josh be given a puppy to watch him and Josh, together with the pup, becomes a nighthawk instead of a sleeping dog who only lies. The story and humor are slight. The illustrations are cartoonish, done in heavy outlines overlaid with washes of mustard yellow and drab gray.
