SEXUAL HARASSMENT

Publisher: Walker

An author known for extensive digging and incisive reporting (Big Brother Is Watching, etc.) once again hits the mark, unearthing—in newspapers and research materials—facts that few adults and even fewer adolescents know about, e.g., that the Anita Hill-Clarence Thomas affair energized women as far away as Japan. Landau considers dilemmas (what constitutes a threat to a ``reasonable woman''?), overlooked areas of conflict (young schoolchildren not being taken seriously), obstacles in court, and situations where harassment may be especially prevalent (industries where women are just breaking in). Her gripping examples are infuriating; but they are balanced by practical advice: good companies to work for; helpful organizations; ways to confront harassers; keeping records, sanity, and even humor. Notes; bibliography; chronology; resources; index. (Nonfiction. 12+)
