Milly, 1878-1888, and Ellen her daughter, 1913-1924 -- a contrast. Lady Acland was brought up in Westmorland, Ellen in Devon. And the earlier childhood seems a far fuller picture, the games, the house, the customs, the clothing, the child's attempts to adjust herself to her elders. Ellen's life was cut off by an accident -- this is an attempt to catch the spirit of a beloved daughter. Well-written -- might catch the London Child of the Seventies' market.
