The editor, Associate Curator of Prints at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, has collected fifty carols and poems from the 14th to the 17th centuries and illustrated each with a contemporary work of art. The texts are English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Latin, Netherlandish; the artists include Rembrandt, Durer, Schongauer, Huys, Donatello, della Robbia. Miss Sayre has provided most of the translations which follow the other- language texts, which are characterized by ""a frank reverence."" While the quality of the reproductions cannot be judged, not having been seen here, the volume would appear to be a fresh way to celebrate the joyous season, a welcome small gift.
