TWELVE DAUGHTERS OF DEMOCRACY

By

Pub Date: Sept. 15th, 1941
Publisher: Viking

The title sounds a bit pedestrian. The material is anything but pedestrian. Miss Glekela has selected women who have pioneered in some field or other (finance, sociology, penology, education), or women who were actual pioneers in our own frontier history. From White House to negro cabin -- a wide range of personalities, interests, achievements. Few of the names are familiar, but without exception, their stories are good reading, their contribution to the democratic way of life, significant. Among the names which you might know are Augusta Tabor, ""Mother Jones"" Libby Smith Collins, Sophie Loeb, Kate O'Hare.
