An excellent documentary text -- I found it exceedingly interesting and very revealing, and think that all readers, from the teens on, will agree. Here is the behind the scenes picture of the feeding of the army, -- not only the physical aspects of cooking and serving, but the manifold ramifications of the quartermaster corps as applied to food, procurement, problems of supplies, of transportation, nutrition factors, preparing of master menus -- in most cases on a 90 day ahead basis -, making sure that our men, wherever they are, have as nearly balanced rations as science and industry and intelligent planning can achieve. Research goes into the picture, understanding of the exigencies of climate. There is even a whole section devoted to the problem of feeding the horses, dogs, pigeons, etc. Lots of pictures -- text crammed with little known facts -- and at the end, one still has questions to ask.
