KIRKUS REVIEW

Twenty-six legends of the Indians of the Southwest-- Pima, Yuma, Apache, Hopi--about the Pima version of the creation of the world by the Earth Magician and Older Brother, the story of how the giant cactus came to be, ""Frog and Locust Sing for Rain,"" etc. The forewords to the separate sections which tell about the customs and way of life of each tribe are stilted sugar-coating, but the tales themselves are well told, and full of atmosphere.
