BUSINESS BE DAMNED

By a former Professor of Philosophy at Butler University, this is a full length fulmination against business which substitutes the overall abstraction and wild generality for the acerb, close to home, critique of Is Anybody Listening? (P.56). It would seem that the businessman has succeeded only through ""force and fraud"", represents the surrender of man to the machine, and is now engaged in the ""final rape of culture"". Only interested in the control of the exchange of goods, business has ""no ends, no concerns, no purposes""; its law is caprice; it is a ""leech upon the life-blood of industry""; it is not only diseased but it is a killer, and the church, education, politics, the law, art, etc. are its victims. Business cannot co-exist with morality, and Professor Jordan at the close proposes the ways in which a new order can be achieved. Presumably social philosophy, in the hands of a crusader -- who more usually sounds like a crank.
