TIZZ

A healthy home and grade school story- with a pony as a main character- takes Eliza Blak back to the age group for which her earlier books were written. The heroine in 7-year old Tracy, a new girl in the first grade. Tracy's grandmother has given her a pony, Tizz, to Tracy's delight, for she is shy and lonely. Her problems increase, however, when the pony becomes rambunctious and runs away a few times. Then Tracy's older brother, Don, and his Cub Scout den, along with some of the kids at school, help build Tizz a corral. Here's a book many beginning readers can cope with, too.
