Elizabeth Yates has gone back to the prophecies in Deuteronomy, Isaiah and Micah for the preparations of the people of Israel for the coming of the Messiah, and then taken the Christmas story from the writings of Luke and Matthew -- and closed with extracts from John and Revelations. A skillful editing job- but the wood engravings by Nora S. Unwin, fine in craftsmanship, seem to us rather grim and adult.
