There's a new dog next door and he is big. He is very big!"" He hangs around ""our"" house a lot, as shown in a few examples, so that though ""we have never had a doff. . . I think we have one now."" That's all there is, except for Bridgman's spare, humorous line drawings of the very big dog--licking the little kid's face, carrying a teddy bear in his mouth, or stretching out on the sofa, which he completely covers. Bridgman's pictures give the dog an offbeat charm; that doesn't make a book for a story-hour audience, though it might be enough for individual lap sitters--if they get the joke Jr. Lit. Gld.
