KIRKUS REVIEW

Short stories, historical recreations, adventure, human interest bits and poetry provide a full canvas for Miss Coatsworth in this collection of stories related to the American Indian in his many facets. These are drawn from her many books for which, in some capacity or other, the Indian has provided material. There are stories of frontier days, of problems of half breeds, of gluttonous Indians, of savage Indians, of peaceful Indians, of Reservation Indians. Almost always the Indian as interpreted by the white man is revealed against a background of action and mood as a being of many aspects and complexions. It reveals Miss Coatsworth as deeply concerned in her topic.
