LADLES' DAY by Elizabeth Corbett

LADLES' DAY

This is one of Mrs. Corbett's virtuoso--drat it--we mean oh so virtuous entertainments in which Jessica Laird, mature, much earlier divorced, a painter, now buys an old house outside New York to settle back in. Her only daughter, grown, and grown away, now seems much more daughterly; she does a retrospective of those she'd known, suitors rejected and subjects painted; she buys gingerbread and molasses drops at Mrs. Bixbee's; and all of a sudden she's offered the love (hesitantly, via her daughter) of a professor which will make tomorrow ""very lovely."". . . . Golden threads among the silver.
