KIRKUS REVIEW

The demure and violently virtuous story of Ruth Hastings, music teacher in a small town, earning a small living and enduring her mother's bitterness against her wealthy stepmother, Mrs. Warner. A quiet summer romance is followed by Ruth's mother dies, she goes to live with the Kings. The problem of ""sinning in one's heart"" only becomes more overt with Mrs. King's suicide; there is ugly talk in the town, and while Lawrence presses for marriage after a suitable time-Ruth realizes she does not love him. Wealthy Mrs. Warner intervenes, takes her to live with her- and there is her young manager, Carl, as a promise for a brighter future. Rocking chair rentals only.
