A period story of conventions, traditions and marriage in a small Illinois town, very much in a family appeal vein. Sheba Faye (of Faye's Folly), is married to Jim Warner, divorced and much older than 27 year old Sheba. His five children, her farm, her mother and grandfather provide a whole category of worries, problems, failures and rewards. The precariousness of her happiness is constantly stressed as boy-crazy Cor, almost too good Raymond, domineering Orrin, shy Hazel and lovable Matt require constant attention. She makes a mistake in trying to buy off Jim's first wife and mortgages her farm, but the discovery of a valuable limestone quarry helps straighten them put financially, though she has to call on Jim to settle with Rose. Good human interest.
