THE TRUNK

Adept, engrossing, a story of a mounting fear and tension in the sullen Central American tropics, and of a marriage that almost broke under it. A painter, vital and intense, chooses to disregard his wife's discomfort and uneasiness and to spend a few months on a small island to paint. Everything adds to her fears, as she is left to herself, the malice of the natives, the half crazed white man who is also living there, and the violent trend of her husband's new work. This comes to a pitch of intensity before they find a way out through recognition of the ways in which they have failed each other. Good entertainment.
