KIRKUS REVIEW

The American Beau Brummol of the late '90's and the first quarter of this century, ""King Lehr"" was the pampered darling of society, and carved out a glittering career for himself in that capacity. The froth on the top of society's vagaries, of that is this biography created. Lehr's somewhat perverted interests and emotions are glossed over, though not ignored; but the book is primarily gossip of the society columns. The Diamond Jim market -- the Cornelius Vanderbilt Farewell to Fifth Avenue market -- from them should the readers of this be garnered. Local interest in Baltimore, whence he came -- New York -- other places where social gossip is escape.
