KIRKUS REVIEW

This seems a misnomer, for here is a rather novel selection of tales, familiar and unfamiliar, with no indication of sources, period, background. They are good stories, all, ten of them; the retelling has put them on a good level for first reading aloud or story telling- with no real fears resulting; the length varies- for family consumption. But- and perhaps this reader will be in a minority- the stark, outsize illustrations in bold line by Gioia Fiammenghi, strike a false note for a ""first"" introduction to fairy tales. Side sewn.
