A DIARY OF PRAYER

While not selected for their ""literary merit"" (although there is considerable evidence of both taste and merit throughout, as against Alexander's Treasure-house, see page 661) these prayers are designed for ""practical help for a Christian still in the kindergarten of prayer."" The diary consists of one or more prayers a day, taken from all religions, from sources both old and new, from psalms, breviaries, missals, hymns, from the words of St. Francis or Samuel Johnson or Mary Queen of Scots, and from the poetry of C.S. Lewis or Verlaine or Rossetti. There will be many illustrations by Fritz Kredel to heighten the universal appeal of the volume which should also have a substantial value as a book to give.
